SFR Quarterly Steampunk Edition

News

The second issue of the SciFi Romance Quarterly magazine is now available. This issue was a themed issue focused on Steampunk. This is one area of SciFi Romance that I’m not very knowledgeable about. So, I turned to the authors of the genre for help for my Charlee’s ScopeBox column. I had a great time getting in touch with the authors and I hope the column turned out well enough!

This issue also includes all the SciFi Romance Releases for January, February, and March. Lots of great books available in SFR now.

The Second Annual Galaxy Awards

News

Last year I was thrilled to join with other SFR bloggers to award the first annual SFR Galaxy Awards. We’ve done it again with six judges naming up to five books (and the occasional movie) to be recognized for their contribution to our favorite genre. It’s an honor and wonderfully tough job picking just a few books published in 2013 in this growing subgenre!

SFRGalaxyAwards_iconThis year’s picks will be posted throughout the day. My awards will be announced at 6PM to wrap up the event. Please comment, argue, agree, spread the word about this year’s awards. We want SFR and these talented authors to get all the buzz they deserve.

The SFR Galaxy Awards is an annual, multi-award event for science fiction romance books. Launched in 2012 by bloggers Laurie A. Green of Spacefreighters Lounge and Heather Massey of The Galaxy Express, the goal of this event is to honor a variety of standout stories.

2014 Workshops Scheduled

News

2014 is just a few days away, but I already have a good feeling about it. I think it’s going to be a really exciting year, full of changes.

To start the year off, I’ll be presenting two writing craft workshops with the smart, kind and talented Prissilla Kissenger. We’ll be at two different North Florida RWA chapters: Central Florida Romance Writers(CFRW) and Ancient City Romance Authors(ACRA).

Most chapters allow visitors to attend once or twice without joining, so please look them up for more information if you are in the area and would like to attend.  We’ll be in Jacksonville/St. Augustine (ACRA) January 25th and Orlando (CFRW) February 1st.

Here is more about the workshop….

Balancing Emotion and Pacing for Unforgettable Fiction

Workshop Description:
Authors know that emotion is the key to engaging readers in the story, but we’re often urged to trim backstory and inner dialog and focus on driving the story forward. This workshop will provide practical tools to get that critical emotion on the page without bogging down your story. Balancing emotion and pacing will deliver the emotional impact your story needs to keep readers turning pages and push a scene or novel beyond competent to unforgettable.

Presenter Bios:
Priscilla A. Kissinger is a three-time Golden Heart finalist who writes contemporary romance with a Latino flavor. A single mom with three daughters, Priscilla recently earned an MFA in Writing Popular Fiction from Seton Hill University. During the day she works as an administrator at a major university, and she spends her free time writing, reading, playing tennis, training for half marathons, watching sports and singing karaoke with her family. You can find out more about her at www.prisakiss.com.

Charlee Allden is a multi-award winning author of sexy, intense, out-of-this-world romance. She is also a self-proclaimed craft junkie whose idea of a good time is rereading a book for the third time to analyze what makes it tick. Charlee lives in Florida where she is a technical writer for a small tech firm.  You can find out more about Charlee at www.charleeallden.com.
